Arizona Legislative Academy

Learn more about the inaugural academy for new members of the 53rd Legislature.

The Arizona Legislative Academy was facilitated by the Arizona State University Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions and ASU Morrison Institute for Public Policy.

Education and training for Arizona’s new legislators on procedure, organization and key issues

The Arizona Legislative Academy at Arizona State University is the first university-based program
in the country to address a perennial challenge: building capacity in the state legislature.

With term limits in Arizona, it is not unusual for a large membership turnover to occur when a new
legislature convenes. Yet, pressing, complex issues like the state budget, healthcare and security
do not wait for our newly elected lawmakers to grasp the nuances of the legislative system and
state government structure through which they must act.

This program is specifically designed to help first-time elected officials quickly grasp the processes, culture, communications and interactions related to service in the state legislature.
