Community Solutions Co-op
United by our desire to develop public service solutions of, by and for our communities, the Co-op (community outcomes and opportunity in public service) brings together academic and engagement activities college-wide.
Membership in the Co-op exemplifies a shared commitment among faculty, staff, students and community partners to find collaborative solutions to challenges in our community.
The Co-op launched in fall 2016, giving all new undergraduate students a solutions-based learning class requirement that immerses them in the community and challenges them to think critically about public service within the context of their chosen field.
Students create a community impact statement identifying a social issue that serves as a focus for future coursework. Through a variety of experiences—coursework, internships, service learning, undergraduate research, study abroad and community impact labs—students are not only workforce-ready when they graduate, they are affecting change in our community from day one of their college experience.
