U-FIRST

The U-FIRST, Nature & The Human Spirit special-topics course is being offered to first year students at HAITC to increase their adjustment to college life and build camaraderie and leadership skills by utilizing the unique marine environment of Hainan Island. This course is designed to create an educational community that brings students, educators, administrators, outside experts, and others together for enhanced student learning opportunities. The course objectives will be achieved through a combination of experiential learning and academic pursuits focused on the importance of nature as it relates to our human spirit and the impact it can have on our physical and mental wellbeing. 

The course topics are designed to serve both a student’s intellectual needs while simultaneously creating unique community engagement experiences for meaningful social growth. When experienced holistically this “Nature and the Human Spirit” elective course offers students an education that far exceeds the limits of a traditional classroom experience.’
