HAITC
Welcome to HAITC!
We just ended our 7th year and what a terrific year with many firsts! As we enter fall semester 2024, my message is focused on the successes of our faculty, students, and staff. First, as an international program, we pride ourselves on having an international faculty and staff who provide students with global perspectives and the ability to truly experience the benefits of an international education community. On the ASU side of this unique collaboration, we are from China, Jamaica, Pakistan, the Philippines, Portugal, Romania, South Korea, Tanzania, and the United States. This diversity of thought, background, and experience cul minates into a truly unique global experience for all those engaged in the program.
- Since our beginning, in 2017 we have graduated over 1900 students! This year, HAITC graduated its first cohort of master’s students, and 268 undergraduates successfully completed their degree programs! We have held workshops and events to enhance the student experience and utilize the talent of our faculty:
- Held the 1st first-year orientation program called Nature and the Human Spirit, where 32 students had the opportunity to learn first-aid and CPR, and experience some of the best outdoor experiences Hainan has to offer, including surfing, hiking through mangroves, sailing, and helping to keep Hainan beaches beautiful!
- Dean Lietz from ASU’s Watts College visited and participated in graduation ceremonies.
- Visiting scholars! The Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, HNU, and ASU sponsored asymposium and workshops centered on National Park Management, Leave No Trace, and Community Tourism Development.
- This year our HAITC team published and produced a lot of knowledge! For example, over the past year, our team published 34 journal articles and three book chapters.
Best wishes and be sure to stay tuned to new initiatives and events posted here!
