How it Works

Sacramento Scholars Internship Program

How it Works

Students will intern in offices in Sacramento that engage in the public policy process. These include offices within the California Legislature, with state constitutional officers (e.g., the Office of the Governor), and at state agencies. Students could also intern with other policy-related organizations with interests at the State Capitol.

Students are required to participate in a series of workshops throughout the semester preceding their internship. These workshops will focus on professional development and team-building activities with their cohort to prepare for the internship experience.

The program will assist students in identifying opportunities and becoming competitive candidates for those specific opportunities. The students are ultimately responsible for securing internships, which will require them to submit applications to offices of interest and participating in the hiring processes (which may include interviews).

The internships themselves will be in-person in Sacramento, California. The admin team will assist students with finding housing, but students are ultimately responsible for securing housing.  During the duration of their internship, the students will also have the opportunity to hear from leaders throughout the California State Government during a bi-weekly Speaker Series (with free lunch provided!). The admin team will also organize educational, social, and cultural activities for students. These could include briefings with key officials, visits to museums, and meals with the other members of their cohort.
