Sacramento Scholars Internship Program
Frequently Asked Questions
The ASU Sacramento Scholars Program’s aim is to help students get a ‘foot in
the door’ in the California state government, either through the California state legislature or other state agencies. Our mission is to help promote student professional development through experiential learning opportunities, to the end of securing a job in the California government. Additionally, by providing the state government with quality interns, the state of California benefits, too.
This program is only offered in the spring and summer terms. The internships
themselves run concurrent to the semester start and end dates. If selected for the program, students are also expected to attend 4-5 biweekly workshops which focus on professional development, which can last from 1-2 hours the semester prior to their internship.
Unfortunately, our program cannot guarantee placement into an internship; you are ultimately responsible for securing your own internship. However, the Sacramento Scholars program has a vast network due to administrative ties to the California state government, previous partnerships, and a growing alumni network. If chosen as a Sac Scholar, the administrative team will work as hard as possible to get you into an internship by utilizing our network and working with our partners to ensure that we exhaust every possible option.
Most internships in the California government are unpaid – however, this is extremely dependent on which office or department you secure an internship with.
If traveling to Sacramento from out of state, you are responsible for your travel costs, as well as housing costs. The ASU Sacramento Scholars program will provide you with a stipend to aid with these costs.
