Students Excel at the 11th Asia Pacific Annual Chapter Conference 2024

A team of students from HAITC participated in the 11th TTRA Asia Pacific Annual Chapter Conference 2024, held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 3, 2024. Under the guidance of Dr. Jong Hyeong Kim, students Hai Tian, Yue Haixin, Gui Yiqun, Ouyang Huilin and Gong Zixu presented their research, exchanged insights and engaged in discussions with international scholars and industry professionals.

Student Engagement

The students took full advantage of the opportunity to receive constructive feedback on their research from a diverse academic audience. Their participation in this global forum highlighted their dedication to advancing knowledge in hospitality and tourism management.

Yue Haixin and Gui Yiqun, both seniors in Tourism Management, noted that the conference provided valuable exposure to current industry challenges and academic trends. The experience broadened their understanding of tourism research and motivated them to pursue further studies with greater confidence, they shared.

 

Ouyang Huilin, another senior student, appreciated the emphasis on interactive discussions and interdisciplinary perspectives.“Engaging with diverse viewpoints gave me new ideas on how to apply theoretical concepts in real-world tourism management,” he said.

 

Gong Zixu, a first-year graduate student in the dual program and co-author with Shi Yuxue, a PhD candidate at Hainan University, described the event as a significant learning experience.
“Attending this conference helped me refine my research approach and develop a more global perspective in my studies,” he noted.

 

Hai Tian, a CRD program student and prospective PhD candidate, emphasized how the conference strengthened his academic and professional aspirations. “Networking with scholars and discussing potential research collaborations gave me a clearer understanding of the expectations in PhD programs and the direction I want to pursue,” he reflected.

Participation in international academic forums aligns with HAITC’s goal of preparing students for global careers in tourism and hospitality management. The university actively encourages students to engage in research collaborations and academic exchanges that enhance their professional development.

Dr. Jong Hyeong Kim shared his enthusiasm for the students’ achievements and their growing presence in international research discussions. “I am incredibly proud of our students for their hard work and dedication," he said. "Their ability to present complex research in such a prestigious international forum demonstrates their exceptional skills and commitment to advancing the field of hospitality and tourism management. This achievement not only highlights their individual talents but also reflects the high quality of education and mentorship they receive at our institution.”

Dr. Xianfeng Zhang, vice dean of the college and student supervisor, expressed confidence in the value of these experiences: “Attending international conferences helps students refine their research and gain insights from experts, ultimately improving the quality of their academic work," he said. "HAITC supports these initiatives through scholarships and mentorship programs.”

Dr. Zhang also highlighted the importance of teamwork and knowledge sharing, noting that weekly student research meetings foster a collaborative environment where ideas are developed and refined.
