Tucson classroom dedicated in honor of social work alumnus

The College of Public Programs at Arizona State University’s Tucson campus recently dedicated a new classroom in honor of Gabe Zimmerman.

Zimmerman was a 2006 graduate of ASU’s Master of Social Work degree program. He was one of six people killed in the Tucson shootings on January 8, 2011. As former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s director of community outreach, Zimmerman was the face and voice of the office, working with organizations throughout southern Arizona. He also served as a field instructor for the School of Social Work’s program in Tucson.

College of Public Programs Dean Jonathan Koppell and School of Social Work director Michelle Carney attended the ceremony along with Zimmerman’s parents, his fiancée and the entire School of Social Work Tucson faculty and staff.

Zimmerman was known for his dedication to serving others, his belief in democracy and his uncompromising respect for others.
