Internship Funding

Public Service Internship Funding

The Congressman Ed Pastor Center for Politics & Public Service provides limited funding to support students participating in unpaid out-of-state public policy summer internship programs. These Public Policy Summer Intern Scholarships are meant to promote participation in these critical internship opportunities by an economically diverse student population who might not otherwise be able to accept an unpaid internship.

Participants must document their leadership and professional development objectives related to public policy prior to beginning the internship program, and upon the conclusion of the internship, produce a professionally written article reflecting on those objectives for the benefit of other students who may be considering similar opportunities in public policy.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Students must have applied and been accepted to participate in a summer internship program with either 1) a local, state, tribal, or federal government agency, or 2) a public agency advisory board or commission, or nonprofit civic leadership or advocacy organization. The host organization must not be located in the student’s home state or state of residency during their regular academic year.
  • “Distance” or virtual internships for a non-local agency, but completed at the applicant’s normal place of summer residence are not eligible for this scholarship.
  • The internship program must not provide a salary or stipend other than to cover costs for travel and meals.
  • Full-time ASU students (undergraduate or graduate) from any discipline with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA may apply for the scholarship.
  • ASU students from any campus, including ASU Online degree program students, may apply for the scholarship.
  • Students under academic or disciplinary probation are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

DEADLINE:

No later than 2 weeks prior to the start of your internship all of the following application materials must be submitted to Alberto.Olivas@asu.edu.
